Marilyn Bell: Second Round

31st Annual Great White North Tim Hortons Dragon Boat Challenge – September 7th 2025

But…only half of a round! Due to unforeseen circumstances Sharon was only able to participate on the second race day. Which was a bit of a pity because she could also not compete in Montreal a few weeks earlier…though in both cases her absence had very valid reasons (queue Four Weddings And A Funeral).

So off we went to see if some damage could be done. And boy, was there damage. First of all, the venue was solid as always. Plenty participants, some food trucks (only 2 though?), ice cream, beer and coffee. All you need.

The weather was pretty good too. Not too hot, not too windy and no rain which was good because Tribal had a jam-packed day. Aloha, Maui and Wahine were basically racing every third race in the schedule, at various disciplines. Sharon rowed with Wahine (all-female boat) and Aloha, but it turned out to be an all-female today.

Wahine didn’t only win the 200m but also the 500m which means…drumroll…that they took the championship in the Premier Women’s A Division! You can imagine the smiles and pride the team displayed all day long. What a great result for such hard work.

On a side-note, my own corporate team (Will Paddle For Food) was also present and fighting their own fight. The only reason I’m not labeling as the ‘enemy’ is that they did not directly compete with Sharon. Therefor, their own championship win is well-earned 😉

The seasons’ almost over. Next up: Christie Lake. Or -by the sounds of it- Hamilton. Damn algae. See you in a few weeks!
